Anak-anak kita berhak mendapat segelas air bersih.

WATER TREATMENT PLANT SHUT DOWN IN BENTONG

My office has contacted PAIP upon receiving news that the Bentong Phase 2 water treatment plant has been temporarily shut down due to heavy sedimentation. However, PAIP was unable to explain the cause of the problem. They were still investigating. However, they have promised that if the problem is not resolved within 24 hours which will cause a disruption in water supply, they will dispatch trucks to deliver water to the people.

I have then gone to the Perting River to personally investigate the matter.

I noticed that the river has turned into a dark tea color with fast flowing water. This fenomena was most probably caused by an unusual occurrence of heavy downpour in the water catchment upstream. Nevertheless, I urge all relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation on this matter.

Imagine if there are forest clearing activities in our water catchment area, what would happen to our drinking water source.

We should all treasure the forest cover in this water catchment area. We must protect what we have and let Perting river continue to flow with clean water for generations to come.

Our children deserve a clean glass of water.

I spoke to the toilet cleaner of a park in Lahad Datu, praised him for his good job. I asked if people like this park. He answered yes and that there are so many families enjoying this park everyday. The park is situated in town but it feels like being in the wild.

The man continued on, “I was told long time ago a China man in this town built this park and many of the trees here are planted by him”.
I smiled and said, “I am that China man”. I pointed to Mr Lai standing next to me “We spent many evenings clearing the bush and lalang, and planted many of these trees”.

20 years ago, as a council member of Majlis Daerah Lahad Datu I proposed to convert a plot of small land that sat in the middle of the town with compacted soil, overgrown with lalang and bushes. It was a site supposedly for a town hall to be built then.

I saw the need of a park in that area and convinced the council to build the town hall further outskirts of the town instead, and introduced an urban forest park. Some people opposed, wondering why bring in wilderness into a town.

I went back to visit the place last week, together with Mr Lai-the only person who helped me during the initial stages. Seeing how it has taken off gave me a great sense of achievement.

Thank you to Mr Chua Ching Kun, bekas setiausaha MDLD, who supported the proposal, thanks to landscape team of MDLD who upkeep the park, and Dr Yap, Innoprise, for donating the seedlings.

Sehingga kini, masyarakat Orang Asli masih terpinggir.

At this time and age, the Orang Asli communities are still being marginalized.

Children not receiving education.
Children suffering from malnutrition.
Families without proper shelters.
Houses without toilets and electricity.

So-called development projects by government agencies have not only pushed the Orang Asli community in this village to a small degraded forest area but they are also constantly being threatened of eviction.

Nothing has changed over the last sixty years. And change will not happen unless the people’s mandate to Pakatan Harapan is returned!
