Amcorp Properties Bhd, a winner of the ASEAN Renewable Energy Award has proposed to expand another 2MW on their existing 6MW mini hydro power plant in Taman Eko Rimba Perting, Bentong, where the Chamang Waterfall is situated.

This means close to half of Bentong’s energy consumption will come from renewable source.

Amcorp hopes the proposed expansion will help to reduce accidents at Chamang Waterfall through the regularization of water flow.

As a CSR initiative, Amcorp is also proposing a children’s pool. I have reminded them that Chamang Waterfall is an iconic tourism spot for Bentong. Any development in this area must apply utmost creativity and innovation. And most importantly, the protection of the natural environment must be taken into serious consideration. I have suggested the building of a little paradise with natural pond and rainbow instead of a concrete structure.

And since the project will utilize two acres of forest land, I have requested the company to compensate by restoring two acres of forest along the Perting River bank.

Note : This meeting was organized by Jabatan Perhutanan Negeri Pahang with all relevant government agencies last Monday. Right approach. Good job!
