Last week I visited Tok Batin Yusuf and the community of Sg Lebak Orang Asli village. This OA village has about 90 families. Within a week my office had organized a dialog session with them, which was also attended by YB Lee Chin Chen, Chairman of MPKK Dawis, representative from Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli and the developer.
The Orang Asli have lived there for generations but most of their lands have been robbed from them and granted to big developers. They have even been barred from entering their orchards. In addition, lorries from the sand mine near the area were travelling at high speed, posing serious danger to the residents.
On behalf of the Orang Asli, I have demanded the developer to allow the OA full access to their orchards and to look for an alternative route for the lorries. The developer agreed.
