Himpunan Hijau ‘Bury Lynas with 1,000,000 signatures’ campaign has surpassed the 800,000 mark!
The 24-hours marathon ‘Bury Lynas with 1,000,000 signatures’ campaign which was carried out from 10am, 15 September to 10am, 16th September 2013 has received tremendous support. A total collection of 80,000 signatures was reported by the fifteen stations which were set-up across the nation. With this extraordinary feat, the campaign has now surpassed the 800,000 mark.
Said Wong Tack, chairperson of Himpunan Hijau, “We are already so close now. Only a hundred odd thousand to go. We could achieve our goal of a million signatures any day now. But we need many people to get involved. If two thousand citizens step forward now, and collect a hundred signatures each, we will achieve our goal.
“We know there are tens of thousands of the petitions forms circulating out there, most likely a significant number already signed. I hope the green leaders can submit the signed petitions to us within this few days. Whatever the number doesn’t matter. Whether it’s ten, twenty, a hundred or two hundred signatures, please submit to us now.”
Wong Tack warns, “We want to remind everyone that Lynas is already in operation. The risks of harm from the Lynas’ operation increase by the day. Therefore, it is crucial that we do not delay by a single day to take the appropriate action.”
The campaign is approaching the finishing line. Let’s complete this mission in the highest spirit so that we can move on to the second phase, that is to work with international NGOs to close down Lynas,” urged Wong Tack.
