Himpunan Hijau : Ewon Ebin has no respect for the people and the democratic process

Himpunan Hijau is enraged by the statement of the Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Ewon Ebin that he does not care what the people say about the Lynas issue. This clearly shows that the regime does not care about the people anymore.

Said Wong Tack, chairperson of Himpunan Hijau, “Such an arrogant, ignorant, selfish and irresponsible behavior from the minister is not acceptable. Ewon Ebin has lost sense of his ministerial duty. He does not even have the basic respect for the democratic process of a country.

“We have communicated with his ministry in writing immediately after our visit to the MOSTI on August 2nd, 2013 to arrange a meeting for a dialogue to resolve this issue. However, we did not receive any response even though they have promised to arrange the meeting.

“Ewon even refused to respond to questions from reporters on this issue, saying he will only answer in parliament. Only two reasons can explain this sort of arrogant misbehaviour. Either he thinks the people are stupid or he himself is stupid.

“Whatever that he has said regardless of whether it was inside or outside the parliament have been total nonsense, with an intention to mislead the people.

“In any other democratic country, a minister who made such arrogant and stupid statements would have been asked to step down by the people.”

Today, on the 29th day of our Himpunan Hijau ‘Bury Lynas with 1,000,000 signatures’ campaign, we have garnered more than half a million signatures with hundreds of thousands more still circulating across the country. We are confident that the signatures will continue to pour in and we will meet our target soon.

“The people’s objections to Lynas are crystal clear. How could Ewon Ebin show no concern to this petition exercise?

“We would like to clarify here the signatures collected will not be presented to this heartless regime .This petition campaign is a self-help exercise and we will not depend on this heartless regime to resolve our problem. After we complete our signatures collection, Himpunan Hijau will work with international NGOs and communities to apply pressure to choke Lynas financially and force it to close down,” said Wong Tack.
