WATER TREATMENT PLANT SHUT DOWN IN BENTONG
My office has contacted PAIP upon receiving news that the Bentong Phase 2 water treatment plant has been temporarily shut down due to heavy sedimentation. However, PAIP was unable to explain the cause of the problem. They were still investigating. However, they have promised that if the problem is not resolved within 24 hours which will cause a disruption in water supply, they will dispatch trucks to deliver water to the people.
I have then gone to the Perting River to personally investigate the matter.
I noticed that the river has turned into a dark tea color with fast flowing water. This fenomena was most probably caused by an unusual occurrence of heavy downpour in the water catchment upstream. Nevertheless, I urge all relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation on this matter.
Imagine if there are forest clearing activities in our water catchment area, what would happen to our drinking water source.
We should all treasure the forest cover in this water catchment area. We must protect what we have and let Perting river continue to flow with clean water for generations to come.
Our children deserve a clean glass of water.
